My hometown: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Favorite place in my hometown: anywhere I can see the beach

My favorite food: moqueca de peixe 

Hobbies: Cricut projects, reading and traveling

Languages I speak: Portuguese, English, "Portunhol"

(a mix of Portuguese and Spanish, but I am trying to learn Spanish)

Future goals: Travel around the globe with my daughter

Fun fact about me: I used to teach Portuguese as a second language before I became a librarian 

China

I am studying: Culinary Arts, Associate

My favorite book: "If on a Winter's Night, a Traveler" by Italo Calvino

Hometown: Tianjin, China

Favorite place in my hometown: Five Avenues

Favorite food: Tianjin Braised Noodles

Hobbies: Reading and Watching Musicals.

Languages I speak: Mandarin Chinese, English.

Future goals/dreams: Working in the kitchen happily every day!

Fun facts about you: The meaning of my name is colorful and shining literature. 

El Salvador/ Guatemala

     Astrid Rivera

What I am studying here:  Culinary Art with a bachelor's

in business management

My hometown: I grew up in Inglewood, California but my parents

are from Guatemala and El Salvador, and I visit when I can, my most

recent was in August when I went to visit my family in Guatemala.

My Favorite food or recipe: My favorite food would just be recently

made black beans with queso fresco and crema.

My Hobbies: Some of my hobbies are reading and watching novella.

Languages I speak: English and Spanish 

My future goals/dreams: My dream is to travel around the around

and visit different countries to try their food.

Fun facts about me:  I will be doing a farm-to-table Concentration

in the summer of 2025 at our California campus.

Fun facts about my country:  A fun fact about El Salvador is known as

the land of the volcanoes and Guatemala's national bird is

The Resplendent Quetzal and their money is called Quetzal.

India

  Adah Mehrotra

What I am studying here: Associate's degree in culinary arts 

My favorite book: Rick Stein's India: In search of the perfect curry

My hometown: Delhi, India

My favorite place in my hometown- My terrace at home

My Favorite food or recipe: Moong Dal

(split, deskinned mung beans), Bhuna Aloo ( Crispy Potatoes), Rice

My Hobbies: Photography, dancing, gardening

Languages I speak: Hindi, English

My future goals/dreams: I aspire to become a Chef

Fun facts about my country: 

1.India is home to one of the 7 Wonders of the World: Taj Mahal.

2. India is home to some the world's oldest continuously inhabited

cities, like Varanasi.

3. India is the world's largest producer of milk.

4. India produces 75 out of 109 recognized spice varieties.

Marocco

  Hicham Hnini

What I'm Studying Here: Culinary Arts, focusing on mastering

techniques and global flavors.

Hometown: Essaouira, Morocco.

Favorite Place in Hometown: The seafood market and the beach 

Favorite Food or Recipe: Traditional Moroccan tagine,

especially with lamb, apricots, and almonds — full of warm

spices and rich flavors.

Hobbies or Talents: Running, biking, and reading.

Languages I Speak: Different dialects in Arabic, along with

French and English.

Future Goals/Dreams: I aim to gain more knowledge

about food and make an impact in the food industry.

I also hope to compete and win in the Bocuse d'Or competition and

eventually return to my roots in Alaska to settle down.

Fun Facts: I’ve been living in Alaska for the last four years

and absolutely love it.

Mexico

My hometown: Mexico City (Mexico)

My favorite place in my hometown: Baja California

My favorite food/recipe: Mole.

My hobbies: I like to read and to grow vegetables

My future goals/dreams: I want to be the Chef/Owner of a restaurant

that changes the world

Fun facts about my country: a fun fact about my country is that

we were the first ones to use cacao to make chocolate.

Taiwan

   Yin Ting

What are you studying here: Associates in Culinary Arts program

My favorite book: Pei Mei's Cookbook (Library Collection) - A Taiwanese

cookbook that my mom and grandma use!

My hometown: Taiwan

Favorite place in my hometown: Taipei 101 (once the tallest building in the world)

My favorite food or recipe: "Buddha Jumps Over the Wall" is a luxurious

Chinese soup made with ingredients  like abalone,  sea cucumber, scallops,

mushrooms, and rice wine, traditionally slow-cooked for a rich, aromatic flavor.

My Hobbies/talents: Running and singing.

Languages I speak: Traditional Chinese

My future goals/dreams: Visit all the Michelin three-star restaurants in the United States.

Fun facts about me: I am from Taiwan, an alumna of National

Taiwan University, worked as a diplomat for the Taiwanese government for over ten years,

and eventually discovered my true passions: eating and cooking.  I once ran the

Chicago Marathon and performed 'In the End' at Egg.
