Submitting Discussions (Initial Post & Reply)

Your initial post is the start of a new topic or thread in the forum.

Where to Find It

1.

Navigate to your course and click on the Discussion Forum link.

The icon looks like a speech bubble with lines.

2.

Read the instructor's prompt/instructions carefully.

At the top of the forum page.

3.

Click the Add discussion topic button.

Usually near the top of the discussion list. (Note: Some forums, like "Q&A," may require the instructor to post first).

4.

Type a brief, descriptive Subject for your post.

The Subject field.

5.

Write or paste your full response in the Message box.

The main text editor area.

6.

(Optional) Attach a file if required by your instructor.

Below the Message box. You can often drag and drop a file or click the Advanced link for more options.

7.

Click Post to forum when you are ready.

At the bottom of the page.

8.

Reply to a peer’s post. Click on the peer’s post.

Under the Discussion column.

9.

Click on Reply. Write or paste your full response in the Message box. Click Post to Forum when finished.
