Kaltura User Guide: Creating and Submitting Video
Part 1: Accessing Kaltura My Media
- Log in to the Moodle Home Page.
- Select Kaltura My Media (typically located on the top left).
- Perform all subsequent steps inside the My Media window.
Option A: Uploading a Previously Recorded Video
- Click the Add New button and select Media Upload.
- Drag and Drop your file into the designated area (or click Choose a File to Upload).
- Wait for the upload to finish (the bar will turn green).
- Enter a unique Name and description.
- Scroll down and click Save.
Note: Processing and captioning may take up to 30 minutes.
Option B: Recording a New Video (Express Capture)
- Click the Add New button and select Express Capture.
- Your browser will ask for permission to use your camera/microphone. Click Allow.
- Click the large Red Button to start recording (a 3-second countdown will begin).
- Click the Stop Button (square) when finished.
- Review your recording:
- Select Record Again to delete and retry.
- Select Use This to keep the video.
- After selecting Use This, wait for the upload to process, then enter a unique Name.
- Scroll down and click Save.
Part 2: Attaching or Submitting Your Video
Prerequisite: Ensure your video is already recorded or uploaded to My Media (see Part 1).
Option A: Discussions & Standard Assignments (Text Box)
Use this for Discussion Boards or standard assignments requiring a text entry.
- In the text editor toolbar, click the Kaltura icon (multi-colored starburst).
- A pop-up will appear. Locate your video in the list and click Embed.
- A placeholder or link will appear in the text box. Click Post to Forum or Save Changes to finish.
Option B: Kaltura Media Assignments
Use this only if your instructor created a specific "Kaltura Media Assignment."
- Open the assignment and click the Add Media Submission button.
- Locate your video in the list and click Embed.
- Click Submit Media to finalize your submission.
Part 3: Troubleshooting
- "Access Denied" or Spinning Wheel:
- Enable Third-Party Cookies: Your browser may be blocking Kaltura. Go to your browser settings and ensure "Third-Party Cookies" are allowed.
- Safari Users: Turn off "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" in Safari Privacy settings.
- Try a Different Browser: Chrome or Firefox usually work best.
- Camera/Microphone Not Working:
- Check Browser Permissions: Click the "Lock" icon 🔒 in your browser address bar (next to the URL) and ensure Camera and Microphone are set to Allow.
- Video Not Appearing After Upload:
- Processing Time: Large videos take time to process. If you see "Media is being processed," check back in 15–30 minutes. You do not need to stay on the page while it processes.
