A Few Words on Designing an Infographic
Why Design an Infographic?
Combining visual elements and text will aid in processing information in working memory.
Review and Your Information
What are your infographic's key points, and what do you want the student to retain? Use design elements like lines, icons, color, font style, etc., to help highlight the key points.
Start with a Template or Wireframe
A wireframe is similar to a template. It is an outline or structure of your infographic. Canva contains many useful templates that can be manipulated and edited. A template will provide you with a structure where you can quickly start designing an infographic.
Carefully Organize Your Infographic
An infographic should not only display information or data, but it needs to grab the learners attention and visually lead them through your information. Have a beginning, center, and ending of an infographic, and use “A-ha” moments to grab the learner’s attention.
Data and Information Should Stand Out
If you wanted vto just simply chart or graph information and present it to students then you would use Excel. The designer should use an infographic to lead the learner thought a story about the data. Data or information should be a part of that story, but it should be visually appealing.
Tip! Ask yourself how can this information be visualized. Or, what is the best way to represent this information visually?
