Culinary Chronicles:
Exploring History Across 700 Years of Cookbooks in the Western World
August 2024 - April 2025
Cookbooks serve as valuable historical documents by revealing cultural and social beliefs and practices. They reflect the ingredients, technology, dietary restrictions, and aesthetics of their author. Thus, cookbooks not only instruct on preparing food but also narrate stories of the human experience through the lens of cuisine.
This exhibit was researched and curated by the Summer 2024 Food History students as part of the Applied Food Studies program at The Culinary Institute of America.
