Literature & Composition (LITC-200): Evaluating Sources

Reading for Writing

Reading critically and analytically is a skill. Like all skills, you can learn how to do it through practice, patience, and experience.

Scholarly Communication – Publishing papers in journals is a way that scholars “talk” to each other; how they share information with each other about their research, their ideas and discoveries.

You are now joining that conversation with your own original voice.

When you start a research project, paper or presentation, including an essay of literary criticism, it is vital to know how to find and evaluate outside sources in order to review what others have discovered and written about your topic.

The pages in this section provide guidance on how to read and evaluate these outside sources.
