About
The Culinary Institute of America also collects materials related to culinary and restaurant history. These special collections, which are rare and often one-of-a-kind, are housed in the Archives & Special Collections in the Conrad N. Hilton Library. In addition to our world-renowned menu collection, we hold a significant collection of rare books; the Craig Claiborne Collection; a historical recipe pamphlet collection; and manuscripts.
Assembled over decades, this artificial collection of approximately 900 items consists primarily of historical recipe pamphlets, but also includes brochures, leaflets, books, and other ephemera. The bulk of the material is advertising pamphlets from 1920 to 1970.
The collection includes photographs, memorabilia, artifacts, scrapbooks, awards, and clippings collected by Francesco and Mary Giambelli and related to their Italian restaurants in New York City.
