Welcome from the Minister
Luis Planas Puchades
As Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, I would like to extend my cordial welcome to all visitors to this page of agrifood promotion, with which we intend to make known the best of one of our signs of identity: food .
The history of Spain has been conformed with the contributions of different cultures throughout the centuries. One of the richest manifestations of this heritage is the so-called "Mediterranean diet" , which represents a varied, tasty, balanced and healthy eating model, and has the approval of UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The diversity of lands, seas, ecosystems and traditions of our country is reflected in the great variety and richness of productions, which have earned our food a great reputation throughout the world for its high quality.
Many of them are recognized by the European Union and protected by quality seals: PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) and ETG (Guaranteed Traditional Specialty), for being products that have specific characteristics, which only they are possible thanks to the geographical area where they have been produced or to the particular methods of production.
"Alimentos.es" aims to be a showcase of food from all sectors and all Autonomous Communities and show the great Spanish agricultural, food and gastronomic heritage.
It is an open, dynamic, modern and interactive space, both for professionals and consumers, where we offer information on food to know, enjoy and make the most of its properties. I hope, therefore, that it will be useful to everyone .
