Go to your Course and click the Participants link.
Select the Users:
To message all participants, scroll to the bottom of the list and click the Select all [X] users button (where X is the total number of users).
(If the "Select all" button is missing, click the checkbox in the table header to select everyone.)
Alternatively, you can use the filters at the top to select only students, or only members of a specific group.
Choose the Action: Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the dropdown menu labeled:
With selected users...
Select "Send a message": Click the dropdown and choose Send a message (or Add/send message).
Compose and Send:
A pop-up window will appear with a text box. Type your message here.
Click the Send message to [X] people button when you are finished.
Important Notes on Moodle Messaging:
Private Messages: The message you send will be delivered to each selected person as an individual, private Moodle message. Students will not see who else received the message.
Email Notification: The Moodle messaging system will also send an email copy of the message to each recipient (unless the student has specifically disabled Moodle notifications).
Announcements vs. Messages: If your message is a general, one-way announcement to the entire class (like a syllabus change or a reminder), many instructors prefer using the Announcements forum. This posts the message to the course forum and emails all students, and the history is easily visible to everyone.
Go to your Course: Navigate to the Moodle course you want to export the user list from.
Open the Participants List: Click the Participants link (usually in the course navigation menu).
Select the Users:
To select all users, click the checkbox located in the top-left corner of the table (next to "First name / Last name").
To select specific users, click the checkbox next to each individual name.
Find the Download Option: Scroll to the very bottom of the Participants table. You will see a dropdown menu labeled:
"...with selected users" or similar.
Choose the Action: From that dropdown menu, select Download table data as... (or simply Download).
Select Excel Format: A new menu will appear with file format options (e.g., CSV, HTML, JSON, etc.). Select Microsoft Excel (or the most appropriate spreadsheet format).
Download the File: Click the Download button.
The file will download to your computer, containing the basic information visible in the Participants list, such as name, email, roles, and last access time.
