National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 - October 15
Library of Congress digital exhibits celebrating Hispanic Heritage
"Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 and... was enacted into law on August 17, 1988...
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively."
"The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society."
The Culinary Institute of America celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of articles, recipe, videos, and alumni/student stories showcasing the rich, diverse Hispanic cultures and food traditions. Read more at ciachef.edu
